Blink Bay

Mental Math SpeedPlace ValueGrades 3–6Keyboard

What students practice

Students practice place value by building a number from words or from expanded form, such as 600 plus 4, watching for zero traps like six hundred four having no tens.

How to play

A ship radios its number in words or in pieces; players press the up and down arrow keys or number keys to light each place's lamps on towers for hundreds, tens, and ones, then press Enter, or OPEN BAY, once the board shows the number. Reaching closed doors costs one of three shields, and a miss has the board show the right number before that ship returns later.

Teacher Setup

Teacher Setup lets a teacher set the largest place value in play, choose whether ships call numbers in words, expanded form, or both, include units and regrouping, add zero traps such as 604 and 3050, set the speed, and choose whether a miss reveals the answer. A printable student report lists numbers to practice.
