Root Rocket
What students practice
Students practice square roots, setting a rocket's thrust so that squaring it matches a beacon's marked height, such as thrust 12 for a beacon marked root 144, over a chosen range of roots from 1-10 up to 11-20.
How to play
Players use the arrow keys to move the thrust dial and press the space bar to launch, bursting every beacon parked at that height. With estimates turned on, a beacon such as approximately root 50 is solved by flying to the nearest whole thrust. Letting three beacons slip past ends the mission; a short burst has the machine show the correct root before that beacon returns later.
Teacher Setup
Teacher Setup lets a teacher choose which roots are in play, whether estimate-type questions are included, whether an engine preview helper shows what the thrust squares to, the speed, and whether the answer is shown after a miss. The end-of-mission report includes a printable list of roots to practice.
