Fraction Forge

What students practice

Students practice reading a fraction order, written as a fraction, in words, or as a picture, and working out how many of a mold's equal parts to fill. Equivalent orders ask for the same fraction in a mold with more parts, such as filling 9 of 12 parts for an order of two thirds.

How to play

Players use the left and right arrow keys to move the ladle and hold the space bar to pour, releasing to cast the mold once the right number of parts are filled. Overfilling spills the mold, and a mold that reaches the quench tank unpoured is lost; three lost molds ends the shift. A wrong pour stops the belt to show the correct count before that order returns later.

Teacher Setup

Teacher Setup lets a teacher set which denominators appear in the orders, whether molds ask for matching or equivalent fractions, the speed, and whether the answer is shown after a miss. The end-of-shift report includes a printable list of fractions to practice.
