Sum Surge

MathAdding and SubtractingGrades 3–6Keyboard

What students practice

Students practice addition and subtraction, working out the gap between a charge and a target number and selecting the positive and negative number cells that close it exactly, within a number range a teacher sets. Cells in play can include regrouping, meaning carrying and borrowing.

How to play

Players press 1 through 4 for the energy cell in that lane, taking only cells that move the charge closer to the target; a cell that overshoots or moves the wrong way is rejected. Landing exactly on the target scores a surge bonus. If the surge clock runs out, the reactor shows the gap before posting it again later.

Teacher Setup

Teacher Setup lets a teacher set the number range, whether regrouping cells are in play, the speed, and separate coaching toggles for showing the answer on a miss or showing the gap number on the meter. The end-of-run report includes a printable list of skills to practice.
