Prefix Patrol
What students practice
Students practice identifying prefixes and word parts, sliding a cutting beam to the point right after a word's prefix (only where what remains is still a real word, so un|lock is correct but uncle is not un plus cle), with an option for trick words that only look like they start with a prefix.
How to play
Players use the left and right arrow keys to slide the beam and press the space bar, or CUT, to cut; number keys 0 through 9 jump the beam that many letters in, and words with no prefix are cut at the far-left NO PREFIX slot. Cutting five in a row earns a combo bonus; three shredded pods ends the patrol. A miss has the machine show the correct split and the prefix's meaning before that word returns later.
Teacher Setup
Teacher Setup lets a teacher choose which prefixes are in play, whether trick words with no real prefix are included, the speed, and whether the answer is shown after a miss. The end-of-patrol report includes a printable list of words to practice, with space to mark the prefix split.
Play it in Starship ArcadePrefix Patrol is one of 16 games in the Reading and Spelling room, a members room on the Promenade.
