What students practice

Students practice suffix spelling rules, using tools to cut a letter, double the last letter, or swap a final y to i before welding a suffix onto a root word, with vowel suffixes (-ing, -ed, -er, -est, -able) and consonant suffixes (-ful, -ness, -ly) selectable, along with which spelling rules are active.

How to play

Players use the left arrow to cut, up arrow to double, right arrow to swap y to i, down arrow to reset the root, and the space bar to weld the joined word. Letting a pod reach the clamp un-welded crashes it, and three crashes ends the run. A wrong weld has the machine show the correctly joined word and name the rule before that word returns later.

Teacher Setup

Teacher Setup lets a teacher choose which suffixes are in play, which spelling rules are active (all four, just-add-only, or the tricky three), the speed, and whether the answer is shown after a miss. The end-of-mission report includes a printable list of skills to practice.
