Vowel Voyage

Reading and SpellingVowel SoundsGrades 3–6Keyboard

What students practice

Students practice vowel sounds and phonics patterns, dropping an anchor on a word's vowel: a quick press for a short vowel or a long hold across a vowel team such as OA, with patterns selectable among short and magic e, vowel teams, and bossy r.

How to play

Players hold the space bar to drop the anchor while the vowel is under the beam, and let go when the vowel sound ends. Answering five in a row earns a combo bonus; letting three words sail past ends the voyage. A wrong hold has the sea show the correct vowel before that word returns later.

Teacher Setup

Teacher Setup lets a teacher choose which vowel patterns are in play (all four, short and magic e, teams only, or bossy r only), the speed, and whether the vowel is shown after a miss. The end-of-voyage report includes a printable list of words to practice.
