Species Scanner

What students practice

Students practice classifying animals as mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, fish, or insect by answering two yes-or-no questions about the animal's body, including tricky cases like bats, whales, and penguins.

How to play

A specimen drops into a sorting pipe that forks at each question; players press the left arrow key for YES or the right arrow key for NO to route it, and two questions later it lands in a group pod. A wrong pod costs one of three shields, and a miss shows the right route before that animal is sent through again.

Teacher Setup

Teacher Setup lets a teacher choose All Six groups, Vertebrates, Cold-Blooded animals, or Mammals and Birds, and choose whether a miss reveals the correct route. A printable student report lists animals to practice.
